"Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life."
- Mark Twain
The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles is holding a Community Service Day on Sunday, June 3rd. Community Service Day is comprised of two separate events: Gear Up for Camp and Summer Safety Day.
The Federation's annual Gear Up for Camp Day allows volunteers to help outfit over 1,000 underserved and at-risk children.
There are two shifts for volunteers (age 12 and up) at Gear Up for Camp Day: 7:30-10:30 AM and 10am-1:30pm. Volunteers will be distributing camp supplies, supervising activities at food stations, sports activities, and arts and crafts, as well as assisting with entertainment and parking. The event takes place at Camp Max Straus (1041 Shirlyjean St, Glendale, CA 91208).
Volunteers will also be helping out at Summer Safety Day, an afternoon of education and fun for families raising children with special needs. At Summer Safety Day, volunteers help organize a variety of projects including sports, arts and crafts, and will also be interacting one-on-one with children with special needs and their siblings. Summer Safety Day has a single shift from 1:45-4:00pm. The event takes place at Vista Del Mar (3200 Motor Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90034).
