The newest teen show on ABC Family is filled with fun, fashion, and finesse. The story centers on Jane, a high school student who interviews for an internship in a fashion design company only to be hired as the executive assistant to the big boss. So, she quickly decides she can have a double life, with the help of her school buddy who knows what she is up to.
Erica Dasher plays Jane, the girl dividing her time between high school and the fashion world. This adorable young actress manages to pull off her double life.
The show appeals to all the young fashionistas out there who spend their time flipping through the latest magazines to see what all the stars are wearing. The fashions on this show are amazing, to put it mildly.
Andie MacDowell stars as Gray, Jane's boss at the company. She describes the kids on the show as "very ambitious, hard working, focused, and really gifted and talented."
It's inevitable that people will compare this show to the film/book "The Devil Wears Prada," because both involve a hard-nosed fashion industry bigwig and a young underling; however this series differs in the fact that Jane is not an adult. She is a teenager who happens to get the break of a lifetime and decides to grab it. As MacDowell said, "You can compare it to [that movie] because it is about an assistant and a boss and it is the fashion world. So those are really the main similarities."
The show is not all about the fashion world. It is more about a young girl who juggles a life as a regular teenager with that of an executive assistant.
"Actually, I have a daughter that is modeling and going to high school, which is so funny because it's a lot like Jane," MacDowell explained. "She's a kid and I want her to be a kid and I want her to treasure her years in high school. So I'm having to reiterate that to her all the time. And then here paralleled, at the same time, I'm working on a show that is exactly that same story, which I find fascinating that that happened."
Jane by Design is a fun show for teens, tweens, and even adults. It shows teens that if they work hard enough, then they have the ability to reach for their dreams. Jane doesn't sit and watch TV or play video games all afternoon. She is a hard worker, but she is excited about what she does. Okay, so most kids won't be able to juggle their high school studies with a big job, but Jane sure can. Check it out on ABC Family.
