Pop singer/actor Brandy has a new gig. She is one of the mentors on the new HUB reality talent show Majors and Minors. Because she attained her fame at a young age she is in a unique position to counsel the young participants in this new talent series.

When she was asked at the Television Critics Association how she would counsel young performers about dealing with instant fame she replied, "I think it's very important to keep honest people around you, especially when you're so young. And one of the things that I noticed when I went to the show was all of the parents, and the support these children have behind them. I told each and every child, 'Keep your family. Keep honest people around you, because that's what's going to keep you on track.' That's what kept me on track. Family is very important."

Because this generation has grown up with reality television and shows like American Idol, youngsters today have a different reality about being a singer or entertainer. Brandy acknowledged that these shows inspire children at a very young age.

"I think when you discover a talent at 7 or 8," Brandy explained, "you're going to want to do [focus on that and] that desire is going to motivate you to want to share that gift. That's what it's all about. And it's so beautiful to see the passion that these children have about their talent, and it's just like I'm looking in a mirror because I remember feeling the same exact way."
