SeaLife Mini II Camera Review

SeaLife Mini II Camera Review

The SeaLife Mini II is a sturdy camera built for the casual user. In place of lugging thousands of dollars worth of professional photography equipment on your next diving trip, the SeaLife Mini II makes taking underwater pictures and videos a snap. A durable rubber armor hugs the exterior of the Mini II, providing protection against the elements, and a thumb imprint ensures that users won't lose their grip in the water. The 9 megapixel camera offers the choice of Land Auto mode, automatically controlling exposure and flash, and several underwater modes, such as snorkeling; diving; and camera + flash. There is also the intriguing Spy Mode, which is useful for capturing pictures of elusive sea life without being discovered. In Spy Mode, the camera will automatically take continuous shots of a scene at specified time intervals. Though the Mini II lacks a traditional zoom, simply clicking a button with a magnifying glass symbol allows the user to maximize an image up to three times the size. There is no zoom option while filming video.

On a family trip to Punta Mita, Mexico, the kids enjoyed the sturdy, easy-to-use Mini II both on the beach and on a snorkeling adventure. No waterproof case needed—a waterproof door at the bottom of the Mini II protects the innerworkings of the camera. The Mini II does come with a wrist strap, but one recommendation would be to purchase an additional device such as a floatation strap, as this camera will quickly sink in the water.

Overall, the lightweight SeaLife Mini II may not be the highest quality camera on the market, but its simplicity makes it a great choice for vacation memories and family fun.
