Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher star in this action-packed story of the Coast Guard and the high seas. Costner plays a "swimmer" who bravely saves the lives of stranded people day after day. After an accident when his crew is killed, he is sent to unwind at the academy where he teaches the new class of potential swimmers. He is the best the Coast Guard has ever had, and wants his students to be the best. With that in mind, he is tough on them. But he knows the job better than anyone and he knows what it takes to do it. Therefore he won't pass anyone who is not up to the challenge. Consequently, most of his class wash out, no pun intended. This is definitely an intense film with a lot of action and some interesting human interaction. The DVD contains some deleted scenes and an alternate ending, as well as a "making of" feature and a tribute to the real Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers.
