"Good friends, good books, and a sleepy conscience: this is the ideal life."
- Mark Twain
Am I ready for this? Can I afford this change? Will my family be supportive of my decision? Do I want to say goodbye to the children I have been caring for?
Yes, the time has come
…to once again update my resume, edit my cover letter, and brush up on proper interviewing etiquette.
A few of my least favorite questions? Describe one of your flaws (to pick just one? And somehow I will still be hirable? And seem desirable?); tell us about your most recent work experience (taking care of lots and lots of babies!); where do you see yourself in five years (I cannot forecast where I will be in six months; five years feels like an eternity!)
Interviewing is a tumultuous process. The stress it induces can be overwhelming. Often, when I feel the interview went well, the interviewer (and potential opportunity) seems to disagree.
Despite not having the most stellar interview answers and utterly destroying the format of my resume, I somehow got the job! I am no longer a nanny. However, I will continue to spend my days with children.
My new job title? Montessori Preschool Teacher's Assistant. Although I have only officially worked one full day at my new gig, I can already tell I am going to enjoy it. The school is located in the heart of downtown, making it easily accessible by bus. My girlfriend from college works across the street, too. My supervisor has 14 years of experience under her belt, as do several of my coworkers. This has proven to be encouraging.
In addition, the job will enhance my passion for working with children. With a bit more schooling, or enrollment in a Montessori Certification Program, there is the potential for me to become a Montessori Preschool Teacher. A job with the opportunity to advance? Yes, please. And more importantly, my work is willing to support me while I attend.
I am extremely happy and appreciative to have been given this chance. For the first time since graduating, I am truly proud of myself. I cannot wait to see what day two has to offer, as well as the upcoming weeks and months. Please check back soon!
My name is Megan, and I am a recent graduate from Gonzaga University. I was born in Overland Park, Kansas, and currently live in Seattle, Washington. I grew up listening to and loving Jimmy Buffet and ACDC. I am the product of 16 years of Catholic Education, proud survivor of four years at an all-girls high school, and the child of WSU alumni (perhaps my parents are to blame for my love of cheap beer and boxed wine?). While I strive to put my college degree to use, and find a suitable "career," I enjoy life as a nanny, volunteer, avid reader, and blogger.
